Long-term EU budget agreed

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The European Commission and the European Parliament reached an agreement today on the EU budget for 2014-2020, which will amouunt to 960 billion euros. For the first time the budget is lower than the financial framework in force.

Following the announcement of the deal, European Commission president José Manuel Durao Barroso affirmed that the spending plan would include 6 billion euros for stimulating youth employment and supporting small business in Europe.

The deal has been struck several hours before the beginning of the European Council summit in Brussels. Just in time for the twenty-seven member states to sign. Furthermore, the EU officials will discuss the scheme for handling of failing banks.
