Eurozone retail sales rise 3.00% year-on-year in February

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data released by the Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union on Wednesday showed the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose 3.00% in February 2015 compared with February 2014. Compared with January 2015, the retail sales contracted 0.2%.

On an annual basis, the 3.00% rise in the headline figure was mainly due to a rise of 4.3% for the non-food sector, of 4.2% for automotive fuel and of 1.0% for “Food, drinks and tobacco”. Meanwhile, the month-on-month contraction was due to falls of 0.8% for “Food, drinks and tobacco” and of 0.4% for automotive fuel, while the non-food sector rose by 0.1%.

The shared currency continues to get battered by the pound in the European session; keeping EUR/GBP below 0.73 handle, as the shared currency completely ignored above estimates Euro zone retail sales numbers.
