US stocks close higher after FOMC minutes
FXStreet (Córdoba) - US stocks finished slightly higher Wednesday session following the release of Fed’s March 17-18 meeting minutes, which showed several members favored a June rate hike.
Stocks traded choppy after the release of the minutes and ended slightly into the green. The DJIA rose 0.20% to 17,902. The S&P 500 closed 0.3% up at 2,081. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.8% and ended at 4,950.
"Several" FOMC members judged appropriate June for the liftoff, while “others” anticipated initial rate hike more likely later in 2015 due to impact of US dollar and oil prices and “a couple” would like to wait until 2016.
However, the Fed reiterated rate hikes will be data-dependent and gradual. However, the minutes were previous to awful March nonfarm payrolls data which was released last week.
