Van Rompuy: EU working with Cyprus on lasting solutions for the economy

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The head of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy has with met Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades today in order to discuss the island's current economic situation.

Van Rompuy expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Cyprus under it's bailout program and assured that the EU would continue supporting its efforts. He said that European lawmakers were working together with Cypriot authorities to find “lasting solutions” to boost employment and growth on the island.

“Ambitious reforms in Cyprus will pay off,” Van Rompuy wrote later on his twitter account. The President of the European Council also stressed that the euro is no more under threat of collapse.

It is Van Rompuy's first visit to Cyprus since the country was granted a 10 billion euro by the Troika lenders.
