UK unemployment rate remained at decade low of 5.1% in Q4

The data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed the jobless rate remained at a decade low of 5.1% in three months to December.

Wage growth remained subdued around 2%. Excluding bonus, the pay growth advanced to 2%, beating the estimated drop to 1.8% from 1.9%. Including bonus, the growth slowed to 1.9% as expected.

Unemployment fell 60,000 between October and December to 1.69 million and employment climbed 205,000 to 31.4 million. Jobless benefits fell 14,800 to 760,200 in January, taking the rate to 2.2%. In December, the total dropped 15,200 instead of previously reported figure of -4,300.
