US consumer prices rise 0.2% in August
US consumer price index (CPI) increased a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in August from a month earlier, the Labor Department said Friday.
The so-called core CPI, which excludes volatile categories of food and energy, rose 0.3%, the largest one-month increase since February.
Both readings came in slightly above expectations of a 0.1% increase for the CPI and a 0.2% gain for core prices.
On yearly basis, CPI rose 1.1% in August and core prices increased 2.3%.
