US stocks open on a volatile note as markets digest US election results

US stocks started on a volatile note, with the Dow Jones oscillating between small gains and losses at the opening, on the back of Donald Trump victory in US presidential elections.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 13 points, or 0.1%, to 18,328. The S&P 500 fell 6 points, or 0.3%, to 2,132. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 28 points, or 0.6%, to 5,165.

Unexpectedly, Republican candidate Donald Trump became the 45th elected US president. While a Clinton victory was already priced in, the implications of Trump’s win for markets and the economy are still to be seen.
