German industry group sees Britain drifting into hard Brexit

The German Industry group BDI is out with a statement warning that the UK is heading towards a disorderly exit from the European Union (EU), and are stressing the potentially disastrous consequences that move could have on both economies.

Key highlights

"Two years after the referendum, Britain is drifting unstoppably towards a disorderly Brexit. "The British government is still playing for time. This strategy leads to disaster. A clear course correction is needed." - BDI

To avoid a hard Brexit the UK's government must agree to remain within the EU's single market and customs union; must accept EU jurisdiction as a reference for any future dispute settlement.

EU jurisdiction is also the only way to avoid reimposition of controls at the Northern Ireland border.
